Natural Rubber (NR)

Natural rubber sourcing in Cambodia

Natural rubber (NR) is a versatile elastomer composed mainly of polyisoprene, obtained from the latex of Hevea brasiliensis trees, which are widely cultivated across Southeast Asia, including Cambodia. Its remarkable elasticity, tensile strength, and wear resistance make it an essential material for manufacturing tires, industrial seals, and vibration-damping components. Cambodia’s favorable tropical climate and fertile soils provide ideal conditions for rubber plantations, supporting high-quality latex production. This natural resource is renewable and eco-friendly, making it a sustainable choice for various industries. Cambodian rubber farms employ modern tapping and processing techniques to ensure consistent yield and purity. Although resilient, natural rubber requires careful protection from UV exposure, ozone, and certain oils to maintain its performance. The local industry benefits from competitive labor costs and expanding export networks, positioning Cambodia as a growing supplier of NR on the global market. Investment in sustainable practices, such as organic fertilizers and replanting programs, enhances the long-term productivity of rubber plantations. With increasing demand from the automotive, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors, Cambodian natural rubber is gaining recognition for its reliability and quality. As a result, sourcing natural rub

Grades and quality of Cambodian Natural Rubber

Natural rubber produced in Cambodia consists primarily of two main types: Ribbed Smoked Sheets (RSS) and Technically Specified Rubber (TSR), which is often branded as Cambodia Standard Rubber (CSR) or aligns with Vietnamese standards (SVR).

The industry produces several key grades tailored for manufacturing, including tires, medical devices, and other industrial applications.

Key Rubber Grades in Cambodia:
RSS (Ribbed Smoked Sheets): Commonly produced as RSS 1 and RSS 3, which are made from coagulated latex sheets and graded based on purity, color, and tensile strength.
CSR (Cambodia Standard Rubber): These are block rubbers, specifically CSR L, CSR 5, and CSR 10.
SVR (Standard Vietnamese Rubber): Due to close market ties, Cambodian rubber is also processed to SVR 3L, SVR 5, SVR 10, and SVR 20 standards.
Unprocessed Latex: Raw natural rubber latex is also exported, particularly to Vietnam.

Quality and Certification
Cambodian rubber exports, particularly CSR, must be certified by the Institute for Rubber Research of Cambodia or local laboratories to ensure compliance with technical standards.
TSR 10: A commonly exported technical grade, often with low dirt content, high purity, and high Mooney viscosity.
TSR 5/CSR 5: A higher quality, lower dirt, and lighter color grade.
